The Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes is known as a popular pilgrimage destination for Catholics from around the world. Millions of people flock here every year. Lourdes' popularity began in 1858. At that time, a 14-year-old girl named Bernadette Soubirous experienced a series of apparitions of the Virgin Mary at this site. Over a five-month period, the apparitions occurred 18 times, between February 11 and July 16. The Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes is often associated with numerous testimonies of miraculous healings. Approximately 7,000 claims of healing have been filed at Lourdes since the apparitions. However, of those 7,000 claims, only 72 cases were recognized as miracles by the Church after rigorous investigation. To this day, Lourdes continues to welcome millions of pilgrims each year. They come not because every prayer is answered as they desire. They come because they believe that God always listens. And sometimes, the first miracle to occur is not a physical healing, but a renewed hope in the heart.
