Building an Ilur cruising dinghy Part one. The beginning....
Iulr Cruising dinghy build. This is just the first part of my journey building a beautiful Ilua dinghy in Fiordland, Aotearoa, New Zealand. This beautiful clinker dinghy designed by Francois Vivier. The boat is a designed around the traditional working boat of France. I'm using the kit version to build the boat with parts cut using CNC computer cutting. This is the first part of my journey building a beautiful Ilua cruising dinghy. This shows the initial set up, and also my workshop space and how the parts go together to begin building. This is the second video in my series about the build. • Ilur cruising dinghy build part two. Plan... For Information about the lovely Iulr dinghy and the build kit go to https://www.vivierboats.com/en/produc... Conditions for building have been somewhat challenging, with temperatures rarely getting over single digits with lots of freezing foggy days and night time temperatures sometimes well below zero , so gluing has sometimes been a little tricky. But by watching the forecast and using heaters when necessary progress has been continuing. I warm the epoxy before use in a bucket with hot water so it flows well. As I type this it is snowing outside! The only slightly challenging thing with this part of the build was that standard plywood sheets here in Aotearoa, New Zealand are 40mm shorter than what was specified in the building plans. Not an issue with the marine plywood which was the correct length but the standard plywood for the building frame was short. By juggling things around on the computer all the bits came out of the sheets OK with the CNC cutting, but the reference marks for the bulkheads to attach to the building frame where way off so it took a couple of days of juggling to get things set up.
