Impfen: Wie schützt uns eine Impfung? Wie bekommen wir eine Immunisierung & Schutz vor Infektionen?
Feel free to read the basics again here ⏩ https://bit.ly/Impfungen_Blog No other topic is as controversially discussed as vaccination. There is nothing that hasn't already been said and discussed about vaccination. I know that. Nevertheless, I'll explain the basics in the video because vaccination concerns us more than ever, especially now during the coronavirus crisis. 👉 Vaccination describes measures that make it possible to prevent or combat infectious diseases through the immune system. A distinction is made between active and passive vaccination. While passive immunization administers foreign immune defense substances, so-called "antibodies," to the patient, active vaccination stimulates the patient's own immune system to build up protection. And why does a vaccination protect us from measles but also, if present, from the coronavirus? When viral or bacterial pathogens enter the body, certain components are recognized by the adaptive immune system. This stimulates the corresponding cells to multiply and fight the invader. However, this process is lengthy. A vaccination works according to the same principle. However, as already described, the pathogens used are weakened or inactivated to such an extent that the vaccinated person does not become ill and therefore cannot infect anyone else. Of course, it is possible that certain symptoms such as fever may develop; I will explain side effects in a moment. However, this is usually a result of the patient's own immune response. If the immune system is strengthened or built up, "accompanying symptoms" can develop. A brief note on live and inactivated vaccines: While vaccinations with inactivated vaccines are quite straightforward, stricter rules apply to live vaccines, as they use weakened but still active pathogens. With a live vaccination, several pathogens can be administered in combination. The immune system thus develops protection against various diseases simultaneously. However, there must be at least four weeks between live vaccinations at different times. Such rules do not apply to inactivated vaccines. Live vaccines are significantly more potent than inactivated vaccines. Protection is generally guaranteed after just one vaccination. The booster therefore primarily serves to reach people for whom the first vaccination did not lead to sufficient immunization (so-called 'vaccine failures'). With inactivated vaccines, however, multiple vaccinations are necessary to build up sufficient protection.
