YAPEYU - Corrientes (Visito la TIERRA NATAL de SAN MARTIN y quedo ASOMBRADO con su PASADO y BELLEZA)

It was time to continue exploring our vast and beautiful Argentine Republic... A new destination awaited me, this time on the evergreen coast, to visit the birthplace of the great liberator Don José de San Martín. Yapeyú, San Martín's birthplace and also a land of Jesuit history, was going to invite me to step back in time... but it was also going to invite me to enjoy its wonderful landscapes at the foot of the colossal Uruguay River!!! Yapeyú was founded by the Jesuits in 1627 as a Jesuit settlement, under the name "Our Lady of the Three Wise Men of Yapeyú" or "Our Lady of the Three Kings of Yapeyú," which came to house more than 8,000 indigenous people. It was one of the 30 Guaraní Jesuit settlements, forming part of the project to evangelize and organize the indigenous population in the Río de la Plata region. Walking peacefully through the dirt streets (mostly) of this small town is truly like traveling back in time, as colonial houses abound... but also because everything there refers to our Great General: Its charming plaza is called SAN MARTIN. In the center, there is a monument with a bust of SAN MARTIN. At its foot, there is another bust, but of Gregoria Matorras, SAN MARTIN's mother. To one side of the latter, stands the leafy "Higuerón" (tree) where SAN MARTIN used to play as a child. The Hotel del Pueblo is called SAN MARTIN. One of its main streets is named "Sargento Cabral" (the soldier who earned eternal glory for having given his life by interposing his humanity to prevent a royalist soldier from assassinating SAN MARTIN). Even a costume and party favors shop, instead of selling superhero costumes, sold GRENADER costumes... fabulous! How many times as children in school did we hear the words "Yapeyú," "Liberator," and were shown the place where our great hero was born? Well, right next to the Plaza stands an imposing temple, inside which the ruins of San Martin's birthplace are preserved. It was extremely moving to see with my own eyes and have almost within reach everything my teachers had taught me as a child with such dedication and care. Suddenly, all those lessons came to fruition for a few minutes, during which, deeply moved, I slowly rolled around the well-preserved remains of that historic home. Inside this same temple is an urn containing the ashes of the Liberator's parents. And even about 500 meters from there is the San Martin Historical Museum. The Regiment of Mounted Grenadiers donated part of its property for the construction of the San Martin Museum, which covers the history of the Jesuits. Scattered across several rooms are important pieces of great historical value, among which General San Martin's bed stands out. But as I was telling you, Yapeyú is also blessed with great natural beauty. Under a radiant sun, I went to walk along the Yapeyú Waterfront... Walking there truly fills you with peace, it's a pleasure... lots of vegetation, lots of greenery, a beautiful grove of trees, and a great contrast of colors, as the green contrasts with the reddish color of the earth, which is already beginning to appear in this region and finally dazzles in Misiones. And what can I say about the spectacular view of the Uruguay River? From the Yapeyú riverbank, Brazil is almost within reach, as everything you see on the opposite coast is already Brazil. Finally, I went to say goodbye to Yapeyú at a small but very pretty beach resort located on the outskirts of town, called "La Bomba." With a floor of small pebbles, it's ideal for swimming in the summer months or simply taking some chairs and gazing at the Uruguay River, enjoying some good mates or an ice-cold beer, depending on your tastes... Thus, at dusk, a new adventure ended... A new episode for my TRAVEL BOOK!!! If you liked the video, be sure to SHARE it and give it a LIKE!!! SUBSCRIBE to the Channel and click the BELL!!
