A tree up to about 8 meters tall with its characteristic umbrella shape, it has light green leaves. In spring, it produces white flowers. Plums are the fruit of the plant (drupes), characterized by a thin skin, pulp, and a stone containing the seed. Native to Central Asia, more specifically the Caucasus region, the plum tree later began to be cultivated in Damascus, Syria. The Romans introduced the plum tree throughout the Mediterranean. Plums or prunes are essentially divided into three groups: Eurasian plums (Prunus domestica), Sino-Japanese plums (Prunus salicina), and American plums (Prunus americana). Eurasian plums (Prunus domestica), also called prunes, are generally ovoid in shape with a stone separated from the flesh and split easily.
