Right-click on your Desktop → click New → Folder → and name it something simple like ‘Scan’ or whatever you like. -To Enable Sharing for the Folder Right-click the folder → select Properties → go to the Sharing tab → click Share. Select Everyone or the specific user you prefer. Set the permission level to Read/Write → click Share → Apply → OK. -To Check Your Computer Name Press Windows + R → type sysdm.cpl → press Enter. Under the Computer Name tab, note down the Full Computer Name. This will be used inside the Canon machine.” -Ensure Your PC Has a Password SMB scanning will not work if your Windows account has no password. If you are using a password-less account, please set a simple password before proceeding. -Note Down Your Username To confirm your username, press Windows + R → type cmd → press Enter. In the Command Prompt, type whoami and press Enter. You will now see your exact username. We will enter this inside the Canon machine later. -To Check the Workgroup Some viewers asked whether the workgroup affects scanning. Most home and small office networks use the default name WORKGROUP. To verify this, press Windows + R → type sysdm.cpl again → press Enter. You will see the Workgroup name. If it is already set to the default, leave it as is — no changes are required. -Enable SMB 1.0 (Windows 10 / Windows 11) SMB 1.0 is required for older Canon models. To enable it: Go to Control Panel → Programs → Turn Windows features on or off → enable SMB 1.0. -Ensure the Firewall Does Not Block SMB Make sure your firewall is not blocking file sharing.
