We were at the Nursery of the Caribbean Biotechnology Center of SENA's Cesar region, where instructor Matilde García, along with her students, spoke to us about various aspects of plant reproduction and care, as well as proper nursery management. First, they taught us how to prepare an organic substrate made from decomposed leaf litter, livestock manure, and other supplements that provide a high nutrient content to the soil, making it richer and increasing the quality of production. Two of the most important areas for nursery management are the germination and acclimatization areas. The germination area is where the plants emerge, and the acclimatization area is the transition area where the plants remain before being transferred to their final plantings. Other important aspects covered in the nursery are plant reproduction methods and planting them in the land where the crop will be established.
