Built in the 1930s to protect the border against Germany, this small fortification did not have the peaceful fate one might have imagined… In this video, I take you to the heart of the combat blocks, the underground galleries, the casemates still bearing the marks of the battle of June 1940. We discover the story of a fierce resistance, a brutal assault by the Wehrmacht… and French soldiers who did not give in so easily. 🔍 Focus on Block 1: A true pillar of the Bambesch defenses, this block is equipped with a formidable retractable turret, armed with two machine guns and a 25mm anti-tank gun. This mobile fighting position, capable of retracting after each salvo, dominated the surrounding forest and played a decisive role during the German attack.
