President John F. Kennedy Motorcade through Dublin City, Ireland 1963
Thousands of people line the streets of Dublin to welcome US President Kennedy to Ireland. The motorcade travels across O’Connell Bridge, up through Westmoreland Street by Trinity College towards College Green and up Dame Street. Unusually for Ireland, they travel up Dame Street on the right-hand side, or the “wrong side” of the road. At the junction of South Great George’s Street and Dame Street, the crowd breaks through and mobs the presidential car. Michael O’Hehir provides the commentary in this RTÉ Television coverage of the events. The Visit of President Kennedy to Ireland broadcast on 26 June 1963.
