Keppel Hill Reservoir Hike | WWII Bunker, Abandoned Reservoir, Japanese Tomb | June 2026 Outlook

The Keppel Hill Reservoir hike is a short, 1 to 2-hour off-the-beaten-path jungle trail located at the slopes of Mount Faber in Singapore. It takes you to an abandoned, colonial-era reservoir that completely vanished from official maps for over 60 years. 🗺️The Route & Highlights Starting Point: The trail begins at the far left of the Seah Im Carpark (near Harbourfront MRT/VivoCity). You will squeeze through a gap in the fence near a Heritage Kapok tree. Seah Im Bunker: Just a minute into the hike, you will find a dark World War II-era air raid shelter. Keppel Hill Reservoir: Built in 1905, it once served Tanjong Pagar Dockyard and was later a British military swimming pool (complete with diving board). It was only rediscovered in 2014. The Japanese Tomb: Continuing uphill, you will come across a mysterious 19th-century grave believed to belong to a Japanese naval engineer. 🎒Essential Tips Before You Go Difficulty & Conditions: The 1.2 to 2-kilometer route is largely unpaved and involves some steep, muddy, and slippery terrain. Pack Accordingly: Bring plenty of water, strong mosquito repellent, and wear proper hiking shoes. A small flashlight is highly recommended if you want to explore inside the dark WWII bunker. Safety First: Swimming in the reservoir is strictly prohibited and considered dangerous due to past incidents. Avoid the hike on rainy days, as the dirt paths become very muddy.
