The rolling stock on Moorgate services is now entirely formed of 6 carriage class 717 Desiro City trains which replaced the older 3 carriage class 313 EMU trains on this route. Other Great Northern services between Welwyn and Finsbury Park are formed of class 700 Desiro City, class 387 Electrostar and class 379 Electrostar. This route is electrified throughout with overhead electrification as far as Drayton Park where servicesswitch to third rail electrification for the tunnel section to Moorgate. This route is a minimum of double track throughout with Moorgate services using the slow outer lines on the East Coast Main Line.
