Cactaceas de La Pedrera hasta El Chamical | Flora del Valle de Lerma

The La Pedrera area is located at the eastern end of the Lerma Valley, where the plains begin to rise towards the Sierra. This location creates a transitional landscape between the Chaco mountain forest and the drier Yungas, with low hills, seasonal ravines, and rocky outcrops that gave the place its name. The flora includes species such as tala, molle, tusca, churqui, mistol, and various cacti, while wildflowers abound in spring. Among the fauna, it is common to see gray foxes, brocket deer, weasels, armadillos, tegu lizards, and a wide variety of birds such as woodpeckers, vultures, eagles, and parrots. The El Chamical area, located a few kilometers further east, has a drier, mountainous environment, where the Chaco scrubland and natural grasslands predominate. The terrain is characterized by hills, small ravines, and seasonal streams that flow down from the mountains during the rainy season, fostering the growth of trees such as quebracho, carob, chañar, and espinillo. The fauna includes peccaries, foxes, vizcachas, hares, pumas in the more remote areas, and a rich diversity of birds. The tranquility and limited urban development allow both areas to retain much of their natural landscape and be representative of the mountain environments surrounding the eastern Lerma Valley. #cactus #habitat #salta
