आज यूरोप पिघल रहा है. बीते कुछ दिनों से सोशल मीडिया पर कई ऐसे वीडियो वायरल हो रहे हैं, जहां जर्मनी, फ्रांस, स्पेन, पोलैंड, चेक रिपब्लिक और लिथुआनिया की गर्मी के बारे में लोग बात कर रहे हैं. कुछ वीडियो तो ऐसे भी हैं, जहां सड़कें पिघल रही हैं. ट्रेन की पटरियां फैल रही हैं. बोस्निया के जंगल जल रहे हैं. जगह-जगह पावर कट हो रहे हैं. दुकानों में AC तो दूर, टेबल फैन तक खरीदने के लिए उपलब्ध नहीं हैं. लोग सड़क पर गर्मी से बचने के लिए वेटिंग रूम्स में बैठे हैं. WHO की रिपोर्ट कह रही है कि 21 जून से लेकर 28 जून तक, यानी कि सात दिनों के अंदर ही 1300 से ज्यादा लोगों की जान इस गर्मी ने ले ली है। यूरोप तंदूर क्यों बना हुआ है, इसके पीछे साइंस है. इस वीडियो में हम समझेंगे कि आखिर क्या है ओमेगा ब्लॉक (Omega Block), जिसने इस गर्मी को और खतरनाक बना दिया है. साथ ही जानेंगे कि ठंडे मौसम के हिसाब से बने शहर, सीमित कूलिंग सुविधाएं, बुजुर्ग आबादी और जलवायु परिवर्तन यूरोप को इतना संवेदनशील क्यों बनाते हैं. भारत और यूरोप की तुलना के जरिए हम यह भी देखेंगे कि भीषण गर्मी के साथ जीना कोई सफलता की कहानी नहीं, बल्कि आने वाले समय के लिए एक गंभीर चेतावनी है. According to the WHO, more than 1,300 people lost their lives to this heatwave between June 21 and June 28—a span of just seven days.
