Noro Jigs - Lincoln Hilton

I completely underestimated this set haha 😂. Being only three jigs, how hard could it be, but 19 parts and 5 minutes of jig later - here we are! It was a fun set to produce with very contrasting musical landscapes; I hope you like it. Feel free to listen to them all or skip through the video for each individual tune. 0:00 - Ah Dinnae Ken "Ah Dinnae Ken" - Growing up with my Scottish Dad, Uncle and Aunty, this common saying in the Dundee slang was used regularly in casual conversation. 'Ah dinnae ken' translates to 'I don't know'. Ironically, ah dinnae ken which 5th and 6th part is better, so I've put the alternate parts in the music for the readers to decide. In this video, I went with the original 5th and 6th parts, not the alternate parts. 2:00 - The Rain God During my days as Director of the Haileybury Pipes and Drums, in 2022 at the Australian Championships in Sydney, our Grade 4A / Novice A teams at the Haileybury Pipes & Drums were ready to debut their new competition sets. The weather was warm and humid, with overcast conditions; that was until the band walked to the line and played. A big black rain cloud would form above us and pour down torrential rain, only to stop as we played our last note. This happened not once, not twice, but four times over the weekend. Ironically, the performances that we got rained on were our best runs on the weekend. All hail the rain gods. 3:00 - Noro In 2023, when I led the Haileybury Pipes and Drums, we embarked on a trip to Scotland for the World Pipe Band Championships. At one point on the trip, a strain of Norovirus made its way through a couple of players. It was the week of the worlds and it looked like we were in the clear until Wednesday I started feeling a little off. I (the Pipe Major) ended up catching the virus three days before the worlds and I spent first day in my room throwing up and the next day directing the group from a distance to avoid contamination. This came with many complications - no tuning drones, no fixing reeds and no touching tape, door handles, or tuners etc.; I essentially became the judge momentarily before re-joining the band the day before the championships. It was an insightful exercise to take a step out and listen to your corps outside the circle for a day, I'd highly recommend this to all band leaders.
