National Outdoor Awards Program

The National Outdoor Awards program is an opportunity for Scouts to achieve this award with six different options. Scouts BSA Troops and Venture Crews and even Sea Scout Ships youth are eligible to earn this award. There are six different award parts camping, hiking, aquatics, conservation, riding, and adventure segments. The award has a pentagon-shaped basic center patch to which the segments are added around. The requirements are unique in that they are designed with many options for non-troop-based Scouting. Scouts can choose different segments to work on at different times. Amazingly many Scouts complete most of the requirements on their path to Eagle Scout. Scouts BSA Troops, Venture Crews, and Sea Scout Ships registered youth. Very similar to the world conservation patch. Cub Scout youth are not eligible for NOA. There are six segments with the pentagon-shaped base patch which is awarded with the first segment. Temporary patch placement or Back of the MB-Sash. Camping – ❶ Earn the first-class rank or its equivalent. ❷ Earn the camping merit badge. ❸ Cooking merit badge and first aid merit badge. ❹ 25 nights of camping. Hiking – ❶ Earn the first-class rank or its equivalent. ❷ Hiking merit badge or Backpacking merit badge. ❸ Orienteering merit badge or Geocaching merit badge. ❹100 miles of hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing, etc. Aquatics – ❶ Earn the first-class rank or its equivalent. ❷ Swimming merit badge and Lifesaving merit badge. ❸ The Mile Swim BSA Award. ❹ One of the following: Canoeing, Fishing, Fly-Fishing, Kayaking, Rowing, Scuba Diving, Small-Boat Sailing, Water Sports, or Whitewater merit badges. ❺ 50 hours of any combination of water sports, or whitewater activity. Conservation – ❶ Earn the first-class rank or its equivalent. ❷ Demonstrate the safe use of five conservation tools. ❸ Environmental Science, Soil & Water Conservation merit badge, and Fish & Wildlife Management, Forestry, or Mammals. ❹ Complete 25 hours of conservation work. Riding – ❶ Earn the first-class rank or its equivalent. ❷ Complete Cycling merit badge or Horsemanship merit badge or Motorboating merit badge or Skating merit badge. ❸ Complete 200 miles of riding activities. Adventure – ❶ Earn the first-class rank or its equivalent. ❷ Wilderness Survival or Search & Rescue or Emergency Preparedness merit badges. ❸ Complete 10 Adventures. 📊 Poll (8/17/22): The National Outdoor Awards program is only available to…?
