A Yorkie who came in in poor condition and whose hair was groomed by Hugo Pesquera, seeking, as always, to restore health through dog grooming. After showing you how we removed some tremendous eye discharge, we continued with the rest of the grooming to make him beautiful and healthy. Due to the number of knots, we had no choice but to trim his hair with a clipper to avoid damaging the skin while removing them. When cutting hair in these cases, we will keep the following points in mind: 👉 Handling the dog 👈 With a dog like this, it's normal for him to be unused to it, to be afraid of handling, the noise of the clippers... this must be redirected and controlled to make him see that nothing is wrong. Handling them slowly and with control is essential. We can't let the dog understand that moving, jumping, or crying will get us to leave them alone. On the contrary, we have to relax them until they are comfortable on the table with us. 👉 Clipping 👈 When we combine knots with these dogs and a size as small as this Yorkie, we must do so with extreme care so as not to cut the dog's skin. We'll look for the skin and, with short strokes of the clipper, without pressing and holding the skin taut, we'll cut the hair slowly. The most dangerous areas we encounter when clipping are the throat, the folds (armpits and flank), the Achilles tendon area, and the belly. Another problem with clipping is managing the legs while cutting the hair. The front legs become a struggle that usually doesn't end well. For the front legs, the best way to hold the legs is by holding them from the elbow without squeezing the leg. On the other hand, the hind legs are held by lightly immobilizing them from the knee to slow the movement.
