Nieuwegein Rijnhuizen

Rijnhuizen is een van de nieuwste woonwijken van Nieuwegein. Eerder was dit gebied vooral industrie en kantoren. En een deel nog niet ontwikkeld. Nu staat er een moderne woonwijk. Het lijkt er op dat er vooral voor de hogere inkomens is gebouwd. Het is dan ook een geweldige plek zo langs het Merwedekanaal. Voor ons werd het tijd om er eens een kijkje te nemen. Het is nog niet helemaal klaar. Sommige huizen zijn nog niet bewoond en er is nog een deel van het gebied dat nog moet worden ontwikkeld. Samen met andere delen van de stad (stadscentrum en de delen langs de snelweg A12 is Nieuwegein hard op weg naar meer dan 80.000 en misschien wel 100.000 inwoners in de volgende decennia (nu ongeveer 65.000). En dan hebben we het ontwikkelgebied Rijnenburg en Reijerscop niet eens meegerekend, want dat is formeel de gemeente Utrecht (had Nieuwegein nooit over moeten doen aan Utrecht). Kortom: er is heel wat te doen in de omgeving in de nabije toekomst. Wij namen een kijkje in Riknhuizen op 6 juni 2026. Rijnhuizen is one of Nieuwegein's newest residential areas. Previously, this area consisted primarily of industry and offices, with a portion remaining undeveloped. Now, a modern residential neighborhood stands there. It appears that construction was primarily aimed at higher income groups. Consequently, it is a fantastic location situated along the Merwede Canal. For us, it was time to take a look. It is not yet entirely finished. Some houses are unoccupied, and part of the area still needs to be developed. Together with other parts of the city (the city center and the areas along the A12 motorway), Nieuwegein is well on its way to reaching more than 80,000 and perhaps even 100,000 inhabitants in the coming decades (now about 65.000). And that is without even counting the Rijnenburg and Reijerscop development area, as that is formally part of the municipality of Utrecht (Nieuwegein should never have handed that over to Utrecht). In short: there is plenty to do in the surrounding area in the near future. We took a look at Rijnhuizen on June 6, 2026.
