INSIDE THE NGONG'–RIRUTA RAIL PROJECT 2026

I returned to the Ngong–Riruta Meter Gauge Railway (MGR) project in Kajiado County, six months after my last visit, to see how construction has progressed. While there has been visible progress since my previous update,including completed drainage works and several reinforced concrete pillars for the future railway line,the site tells a different story today. During my visit, I found no active construction taking place, and sections of the project have become overgrown with vegetation, suggesting work has been paused for some time. The proposed railway corridor is expected to connect Ngong to Riruta, where passengers would be within walking distance of the future Talanta Sports City, one of Kenya's flagship projects for AFCON 2027. If completed, the line could significantly improve public transport access to the stadium and surrounding areas.
