【花の百名山】秋田駒ケ岳　奇跡の花園ムーミン谷を行く

Summary June 28, 2026 (Sun) On this day, I went on a Tohoku expedition to Mount Akita-Komagatake. The trailhead was sunny, but as I climbed, it became very foggy. Even in the fog, I managed to take plenty of photos of alpine flowers. Immediately after starting the climb, I was greeted by beautiful flowers such as Platanthera hologlottis and Rhododendron pentaphyllum*. *Rhododendron parvifolium had just begun to bloom. Perhaps due to the heavy snowfall this year, there was still snow visible in places. Because of this, I was able to see many flowers even at this time of year. Upon reaching Amida Pond, I looked up at the highest peak, *Danjo-dake*, but visibility was almost zero. Climbing in these conditions would only be disappointing, so I didn't go to the summit, instead spending my time photographing flowers. On the way down the steep slope of Moomin Valley, there was a brief break in the clouds, allowing me to see the entire valley. Many Glaucidium palmatum were still remaining on the slopes. The large colony of Geum pentapetalum further on was also magnificent. Seeing the Japanese anemone (Shiraneaoi) in late July is a testament to the harsh natural environment of this heavy snowfall region, high altitude, and snow-covered depressions. It truly is a miraculous flower garden. The hiking trail to Komagaike Pond was almost completely submerged. Snowfields remained, and after seeing someone ahead of me fall in, I took the cleared detour. Beyond Komagaike Pond, many Primula modestas were in bloom. Eventually, the path changed to volcanic gravel, and Dicentra peregrina appeared. From the turnaround point, we entered the ridge, passed through Oyakisuna, and headed towards Yokodake. This section was extremely windy with nothing to block the wind. From Yokodake onwards, we descended, passed Yakimori, and through the shrub zone, where Rhododendron brachycarpum (Hakusan rhododendron) began to bloom. As we returned to the trailhead and waited for the bus, ironically, the sun came out. Although it was foggy, we saw more flowers than usual, making this Tohoku expedition a satisfying one.
