GALAXIDI Picturesque Coastal Town, GREECE

Galaxidi is a naval town with a history of 4000 years in the Gulf of Corinth and more specifically in the Bay of Itea. It is located at a close distance of 200 km from Athens and just 34 km from the archeological site of Delphi. It is the perfect choice for a weekend retreat or even a day trip. Galaxidi is recognized for its long naval tradition and its active role in the sea during the Greek Revolution of 1821. It is one of the most well-preserved traditional cities in Greece, with two natural ports that resemble an island landscape. Its current name has been preserved since the tenth century, by the Byzantine toparch of Galaxidi, and despite the destruction it suffered over the centuries by foreign conquerors, it maintains its uniqueness and magnificence. Galaxidi is characterized by glorious mansion houses, picturesque alleys, and sea captain's houses who sailed around the world and brought back materials and craftsmen influencing greatly the local architecture.
