In San Bartolo Coyotepec, Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo led the opening of the IMSS-Bienestar Women's and Children's Hospital of Oaxaca, which she described as one of the best medical facilities in the country, and the Comprehensive Community Hospital in Ixtlán de Juárez. "We are happy that this hospital is finally opening. It has top-notch facilities; President López Obrador initiated its renovation, as well as that of the Ixtlán health center that we are inaugurating today." One billion pesos were invested in the IMSS-Bienestar Women's and Children's Hospital of Oaxaca, benefiting 1.7 million people. It is a secondary-level hospital, equipped with cutting-edge technology and offering 16 specialties. More than 60 specialists have already been hired, including the state's first gynecologic oncologist. "With this hospital, we are giving back to Oaxaca a little of what it has given to the country." The Ixtlán Comprehensive Community Hospital provides coverage to more than 37,000 people from 26 municipalities in the Sierra Norte region. The head of the federal government recalled that during the neoliberal period, the goal was to privatize everything, including healthcare. Now, “we are committed to strengthening public institutions” in the sector: ISSSTE, IMSS, and IMSS-Bienestar. She emphasized that the purpose is to guarantee the right to health, from prevention to the treatment of even the most complex illnesses. She reported that 23 states are now part of IMSS-Bienestar, an institution that provides free care to millions of Mexicans without social security. Yucatán is the next state to join this system.
