In the traditional teachings of our Navajo people, it is taught that Black Yeii wanted to keep the fire to control the five-fingered being. But Coyote stole the fire and brought the five-fingered being out of the darkness. These teachings are a great example of the deeper meaning of fire. The old people used to say that there is a fire inside of you: an emotional fire, an intellectual fire, a physical fire, and a spiritual fire. The teaching is that you need to keep your fire going strong and let it bring light. Navajo historian, Wally Brown shares about this teaching and how it was shared in the traditional way.
