Testing the A-104 Army Surplus Mast - installed in Gruz, a makeshift test drive and set-up at the campsite. We're starting the assembly of a 6x2m (10m) telescopic manual mast for Gruz. It's useful for campsites in river valleys and flat terrain, for VHF, UHF, and HF antennas. We're using 65mm U-bolts from a road sign. The manual mast is manually extended and locked with anvils on spring-loaded hammers at each top element. The tubes range from 65mm to 30mm. The movement stops at 30cm to ensure the elements are held together, so we lose 5x30cm after extension. The mast is lightweight (approximately 12kg) and sturdy, and has an aluminum accessory foot for securing it to ground, grass, snow, or rocks. I don't know who manufactured it for the Warsaw Pact, but it was found in UAZs in Hungary, East Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and the USSR.
