Women Leading Peace- Reflecting on UNSCR1325 in Burundi.
This video highlights the work of Burundian women in advancing the Women, Peace and Security agenda even before UN Security Council Resolution 1325 was formally adopted. During the 1997 civil war in Burundi, women organized, mobilized, and pushed for inclusion in peace processes, securing space in the Arusha Peace and Reconciliation Agreement for Burundi. In this reflection, Marie Louise Baricako shares insights on this legacy and the ongoing journey toward meaningful participation. While progress continues through National Action Plans on WPS, sustained commitment is needed to translate representation into real impact.
