#139 KCW - Mezopotamia. Najstarsza cywilizacja na Ziemi.
Do you know who invented the wheel, writing, the division of time into hours, minutes, and seconds, the twenty-four-hour day, the sail, brewing beer, the code of laws, civil rights, irrigation, and the first cities? None of this would have happened, certainly not at that time, if a river hadn't desperately changed its course. The incredible Euphrates River. According to the Book of Genesis, the Euphrates is one of the four rivers flowing from the Garden of Eden—the paradise in which Adam and Eve lived. Meanwhile, in the Book of Revelation, the Euphrates is a river that dries up—a prefiguration of the Last Judgment. According to Mesopotamian creation myths, the Euphrates River was formed by Enki, the god of wisdom and water, at the birth of the world. Who were these wise men who, as early as 11,000–10,000 BCE? Did they create the mighty empires of Mesopotamia – the cradles of great civilizations, the origins of the beginnings? My guests are: Dr. hab. Krzysztof Jakubiak, professor at the University of Warsaw, lecturer at the Faculty of Archaeology, and Dr. hab. Radosław Karasiewicz-Szczypiorski, professor at the University of Warsaw, researcher at the Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology of the University of Warsaw, head of the University of Warsaw research station in Georgia.
