#historyofitaly #savoy #fascism Today I'll tell you about the third King of Italy, Victor Emmanuel III of Savoy, who was undoubtedly the most controversial of the four rulers of this dynasty. Together with his wife, Elena of Montenegro, he ascended the throne in 1900, upon the death of his father, King Umberto I, who was assassinated in Monza by the anarchist Gaetano Bresci. His reign lasted a remarkable 46 years, during a crucial period in Italy's history. Under his reign, Italy reached its greatest territorial limits of unification, experienced the Giolitti era, the two world wars, and witnessed the birth, rise, and fall of Benito Mussolini's fascist government. He played a fundamental role in every important event, and for this, he was hated by many. Today, we'll learn about his story together.
