Brand auf Campingplatz: Menschliche Überreste gefunden

A fire at a campsite in Großkotzenreuth (Neustadt an der Waldnaab district) triggered a major emergency response early Tuesday morning (July 7, 2026). Human remains were presumably found in one of the buildings engulfed in flames. The first report of a large fire was received by the Integrated Control Center in Regensburg around dawn. Upon arrival of the first police patrols, four caravans and cabins were already ablaze, but numerous firefighters were already on the scene. Thanks to their swift intervention, the fire was quickly brought under control. Due to the heavy smoke, the NINA warning app was also activated. The identity of the missing person was initially unknown. The Weiden Criminal Police took over the investigation at the scene that same morning. Officers must now determine whether the remains found are indeed human and establish the identity of the deceased. The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the property damage are also the subject of further criminal investigations.
