An economist from the London School of Economics, with an MBA from Portugal and thirty-four years of experience in management, he worked at Compal, the Nutrinvest group, the management of TVI, and the presidency of Turismo de Portugal. He entered politics in 2019 as the sole member of parliament for the Liberal Initiative, led the party until 2023 — taking it from one to eight members of parliament — and today is a Member of the European Parliament. In January 2026, he ran for President of the Republic, finishing in third place with 16% of the vote, the best result ever for a liberal in the Portuguese presidential elections. Can luck overcome effort, or is it always work that decides? What happened to the opportunities that existed in the 80s and they simply disappeared? Should the State intervene in the economy — setting prices, owning key companies — or will it always be the worst manager of all?
