I try to refurbish old parts (front suspension, cross member, anti roll bar, rear axle) using POR15 rust preventative and metal prep. We remove all of the rust, treat the metal and paint the parts to save them from the scrapyard. Then I make a start on removing all the rest of the components from the engine bay and discover some more horrors along the way. This process was quite satisfying to salvage some old rusty parts and prevent them from being scrapped.
