What Were You Before the Pain?

There are things within you that were never broken, only hidden. Pain changes us. It teaches us to protect ourselves, to adapt, to survive. Over time, those protections can become so familiar that we forget they were ever protections at all. In this contemplative journey, the fox stands before an ancient scarred tree and asks a question many of us avoid: Who were you before the pain taught you to become someone else? Drawing from the wisdom of Donald Winnicott, Carl Jung, Buddhism, Sufism, and timeless spiritual traditions, this reflection explores the difference between what was wounded and what was never wounded. Perhaps the deepest part of you was never lost. Perhaps it is simply waiting to be remembered.
