The "Boyes" textile factory, founded in 1874 as the Santa Francisca Textile Factory, originated from the entrepreneurial spirit of Luiz de Queiroz. The factory became the first large industry originally from Piracicaba, received the city's first telephone line, and even obtained its production process through the hydraulic power of the Piracicaba River. Due to a lack of technology to support the production demands of the factory, all the machinery was imported from England. The Piracicaba newspaper, dated December 27, 1900, presents the speech given by Adelaide Peregrina, a student at the Luiz de Queiroz School, at the closing ceremony of that year's work, where she highlights the importance of the factory for local workers: “It is not a sumptuous building, its artistic work does not capture attention, it has no costly architecture, no colonnades, no ogives, no façades with laborious work or delicate lacework, but before it the passerby must uncover himself with respect, because it is a Synagogue of work, whose narrow and sacred shadow shelters families from the rigors of misfortune, to whom it distributes the work from which comes the reward and well-being, the tranquility and peace of many homes.” The textile factory, after being acquired by Rodolpho Miranda in 1902, changed its name and became known as “Arethusina”. In the 1903 edition of the Jornal de Piracicaba newspaper, a new article details the activities and structure of the factory, including the Vila, a residential complex that served as housing for its workers: “On one block, facing Luiz de Queiroz, Prudente de Moraes, Vergueiro and 13 de Maio streets, the factory has 14 comfortable houses for workers on the first of the streets described, and on the second streets, excellent dwellings where the bookkeeper resides.” Also near the factory is the mansion of Rodolpho Miranda, which, in that same edition of the newspaper, is illustrated as a space: “Located in one of the most picturesque spots in the city is an elegant mansion in the center of a stunning park where, in addition to meticulous care in the selection and conservation of leafy and rare trees, as well as beautiful flowers, its owner keeps a collection of native and foreign birds.” In 1927, the factory was definitively acquired by the Boyes Industrial and Agricultural Company, which took the name of the company and the village until the end of its activities.
