It’s very important to drive the proper car (ideally a big 4x4 or a super jeep) to pass Skaelingar track safely: https://epiciceland.net/how-to-choose... Skaelingar track is a more adventurous alternative to an official F-road leading to Langisjór – F235. It will first lead you to the Skælingar hut in lush green highlands. Skælingar track then continues into more mountainous area, eventually ending at Blautulón lake. The part of the road from Blautulón lake is the most unique and adventurous one. When arriving at Blautulón lake, the only way how to continue is to drive THROUGH the lake itself! Skaleingar track is the legendary Icelandic track where you have to drive for hundreds of meters on the edge of the lake. This makes it a once in a lifetime experience. Please always check carefully, whether your rental car is allowed to drive on dirt tracks. Most of them ARE NOT, even if they are allowed to be driven on F-roads!.
