It's the best that survival horror has to offer, bar none. Depending on what day of the week you ask me, either this, Resident Evil 4, or Deus Ex is my favorite game. It's also the best showing of a remake is. A director coming back with better technology to create a experience with what he had in mind the first time around. A far cry from the nostalgia baiting and creative stagnation of most remakes these days. Games that while good, fail reach the highs of their counterparts. The Resident Evil Remake exceeds the original. The additions and changes from the original add further layers to the decision making process. The end result is the best survival horror experience in how it balance exploration, resource management, and combat.
