Violin Shifting: Finger Substitution Simon Fischer Exercises | Practice Demo

Finger substitution (or finger exchanges) are very common in scales and repertoire. Practicing this type of shift on the violin or viola can help us sense how the mechanics of shifting are intertwined and time the motions in order to create a smoother legato line. An example of finger substitution is shifting upward from a higher finger to a lower one, or vice versa. Another example is when the same note (unison) is played by 2 different fingers through a seamless exchange. 📔In this video I demonstrate 4 exercises from Simon Fischer's book, Basics.
