Condenser Microphone vs Dynamic Microphone

What Mic Should I Buy? Watch this video:    • Video   I always recommend the AKG414 because it's a great mic and it's the only one in that price range that I know really well. I can't recommend mics that I've never used. So should you get a dynamic microphone or condenser microphone? What is the best microphone for recording vocals - dynamic or condenser? In essence, the only difference between a dynamic microphone and a condenser microphone is that they have different transducers. They convert physical energy to electrical energy differently. That means, in theory, they're going to sound a little different. In general, the electronics of the condenser microphone make it better for recording instruments with the full frequency spectrum and those that require quick transient response - vocals, acoustic guitars, piano, drum over heads, strings, etc. Dynamic microphones are great for loud instruments, such as, snares, horns, very loud vocalists, rappers, etc.
