Police have shot two accused in a major gold loot case during a self-defense encounter near the Handapa forest area in Talcher. According to reports, a group of five criminals looted around 250 grams of gold and silver from Sri Balaji Gold Refinery by posing as fake police officers. After the robbery, police launched a massive crackdown and sealed all exit routes. When police tracked the suspects near Handapa, the accused allegedly opened fire. In retaliatory action, police fired back, injuring two criminals identified as Sachin Gejage and Prakash Madane from Maharashtra. Both accused were shot in the legs and shifted to Angul District Headquarters Hospital. Due to their critical condition, they are being referred to Cuttack Medical for advanced treatment. Police have arrested four accused so far, while one suspect remains absconding. Search operations are still ongoing.
