They are both very good types of oil to use, but they have slightly different purposes. Olive oil is heavy in omega-6 fatty acids. Omega-6 fatty acids will typically cause inflammation. But, olive oil is one of the only oils, being an omega-6, that will not cause inflammation. It's actually an anti-inflammatory. Coconut oil is 92% saturated fat. But, saturated fat is not a bad thing. It's my opinion that coconut oil will not increase bad cholesterol or clot the arteries. Olive oil: • Is 78% monounsaturated • Is great to put on salads • It's packed with phytonutrients • It has vitamin E • It has healthy essential fatty acids • It has oleic acid, linoleic acid, palmitic acid, and more *The biggest benefit of olive oil is that it may help support a healthy heart. Coconut oil: • Is 92% saturated • Is good for cooking • It has lauric acid (which is good for the immune system) • It has phytonutrients • You can put coconut oil in your coffee • It could help increase HDL and lower LDL • It can give you energy Both coconut oil and olive oil have their benefits. I wouldn't even say one is better than the other—I would consume both.
