Pokemon Red "Open World" starter speedrun in 48:44 (Gengar route)

The player starts with all badges and all key items in this ROM, allowing you to choose your route to the Elite Four. This run is part of the "custom starter" challenge, which allows you to customize the starter Pokemon but disallows using any other Pokemon in battle. (The normal route just rushes to catch the Level 50 Articuno). Gengar is the fastest starter so far! Its typing and stats more than make up for limited moves. And sleep moves are the way to go for this challenge. Other possible challengers include Kingler, Dewgong, the Nidos, Mewtwo, and Victreebel.
