It has accessible themes: love, loneliness, gangsters, drug use, and a vibrant color palette but still exhibits the key properties of Taiwanese Cinema including a slow meditative plot and long take scenes. Millennium Mambo stars Shu Qi (舒淇), who may be known to western audience through her work in Hollywood but is also a very successful and talented Taiwanese actress.
