Viens Decouvrir Musee Mahebourg

There are so many places to visit in Mahébourg, but the must-see is undoubtedly the fascinating Naval and Historical Museum located just outside the town before Beau Vallon. Also known as Robillard's Castle, this 18th-century French colonial building houses maps, engravings, period tableware, swords and sabers belonging to pirates and privateers, such as the famous Surcouf, and even shipwreck remains that tell the story of the island's rich maritime history. The jewel of this captivating national museum, whose wooden walls are steeped in history, is the imposing bell recovered from the wreck of the Saint-Géran, a ship that ran aground in 1744 off Amber Island in eastern Mauritius. This ship became famous thanks to Bernardin de Saint-Pierre's novel, Paul and Virginia.
