A few mammals that menstruate to be listed are chimpanzees, orangutans, elephant shrews, and a few types of bats. It also explains the change in the uterus lining for the preparation of pregnancy and during pregnancy, it is called decidualization. Mammals like humans and other menstruating species also have decidualization but it is a quite different process which is called spontaneous decidualization. The reason why few mammals don't menstruate is they can re-absorb the endometrium lining instead of shedding out like the menstruating species. It also explains why menstruating species cannot re-absorb endometrium, it is because the thickness of the endometrium is larger than the non-menstruating species.
