🌧 Rain Day with Kodiak Canvas Cabin Tent

Hey we went camping a few weeks ago and got rained out for a day. This was a good opportunity to see how this Kodiak Canvas Cabin Tent with Awning behaved in bad weather. We didn't setup the wall enclosures, rather wanted to see how effective the awning was in rain and wind. One thing we noticed that the awning sides were pooling up water. If you look on the sides, you will see two tabs. For rain, those need to be lightly tied down. I used the Nite-ize figure 9 carabiner and those worked great. That solved the water problem and along with a few other lines, water had a path down. The tent itself didn't pool any water. How effective is the awning without the wall enclosures in rain & wind? Not very. Items against the tent wall in the middle stayed dry, everything else got a bit of mist. To me, this was similar when you have a screen tent covering a picnic table. I think wall enclosures for the awning is a must based on weather forecast. How does canvas behave when wet? well, I say it's much like a tilley hat. The outside is obviously wet. But the inside of the canvas has varying levels of "damp". There's humidity in the air damp, damp but no moisture on the hand or damp with a little moisture. Overall I found the ceilings to fall into damp with a tiny amount of moisture collecting on your hand if you were to brush it. Other areas, you brush your hand and there would be no moisture. I would say that as long as you don't have anything leaning against the wall, your gear will stay bone dry but will have that air humidity moisture. The next day, it took a while for the sun to dry the tent. We had 2.5 hours of quality drying time, which still left the ceiling damp. I didn't roll down the windows to remove the interior condensation (something I should do next time). I packed things up and once I got home, I laid it over the kitchen table and turned on the floor fan for 20 hours to fully dry the tent. I would recommend the wall enclosures, that will keep the area dry and you won't have to move your gear around.
