One is the ideal one, in which we reproduce imaginative subjects and determine the tones by idealizing this color and the paint treaties are full of these recipes and solutions to obtain the ideal skin color in a homogeneous color palette. The other is to observe the subject in front of us and reproduce its color as we would do for an apple, a sky or a rose. However, both motivations require experience, to experiment with the best way to use colors to obtain the complexion, but mind that precise complexion that I choose among all the possible complexions and which must have a particularity, must be formed by a palette of homogeneous colors. The colors that form the complexion must belong to a gradation of tones with the same chromatic base. To do this we must try on the canvas which of these tones we can obtain by mixing the colors we have chosen and how to obtain the colors for the complexion in oil colors. Therefore, the complexion is not a color but it is one of the most familiar and therefore most recognizable shades of color within a painting. When we say embodied we refer to all that range of chromatic frequencies that make up nothing in the world other than our skin and therefore, when we decide to depict it, we feel like we are invested with a greater responsibility and we are called to a greater effort to make it credible.
