Claire's story
On the 28th August 2019, Claire went on a training bike ride when tragedy struck. She collided with a tractor on a route she rides most days. Her injuries were catastrophic. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance were one of the first on scene and our critical care teams treated and sedated her, and flew her to University Hospital Southampton. The quick response from the team, the early medical interventions and speed with which she arrived at the major trauma centre, helped to stem her injuries and ultimately save her life. Claire, and her brother Ed, along with the crew who attended, recall what happened on that day.
