History of indigo. Fragment of a new tutorial by Michel Garcia

For everyone passionate about natural dyeing, including designers, educators, and enthusiasts. Michel Garcia presents his new work—a video guide to indigo. WWW.WOOLMASTERS.COM He invites us into a world where indigo is more than a color; it's an exploration. It's for everyone, experienced or just curious. This tutorial shares deep knowledge, techniques, and insights from 30 years of Michel’s work. His methods, born from nature, are the foundation for dyers everywhere. Simple, sustainable, and profound. Michel Garcia’s new video tutorial is an open door. Step by step, from indigo plants to dye, from raw to rich blue, from a home setup to a 300-liter vat. This is indigo through Michel's eyes, from its history to a future where dyeing respects the Earth. Let's dive into the details and layout of the new tutorial. In the first volume (Parts 1-12), we learn about turning indigo plants into dye. Michel starts with compost or his unique crushed-and-dried leaves preparation for the '1-2-3-4' vats, a technique he introduces for the first time. Then, he shows how to make the indigo extract in paste or powder form from dried Indigofera leaves. For those starting with powdered indigo, Michel explores how to find the right dyeing method in the second Volume of this tutorial (Parts 13-26). Michel demonstrates how to prepare and maintain organic indigo vats, offering insights into achieving a long-lasting, basically eternal vat and stable blue color on fabric. He covers dyeing techniques for wool and silk, performing deep and light blues, and discusses the interplay between indigo and mordants for colorfast greens and purples. This course includes 6 hours of video split into 26 parts, plus a detailed handout with recipes and tips. Videos are in English with subtitles and handouts in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Russian. The tutorial is available from March 15, 2024, with an early bird price until the end of March. Sign up on our website to secure your spot. Michel also supports learners through a Facebook blog, answering questions and building a community of dyers. Step into the world of indigo with Michel Garcia.
