Self Checkout Compilation 3

The Long awaited "Self checkout compilation" series has returned with all new self checkouts never filmed before! Like before, let's go through each of the self checkouts in order, as every video i film has a story behind it. Waitrose has installed some new standard form DN self checkouts. These are probaby the first Standard form self checkouts in a waitrose since the initial introduction of the machines in the early 2010s, most units since then have been in compact form. The DNs present are very similar to those seen in other supermarkets, but are still running the same software the now buried WNs had. Whilst the asda self checkout is fairly unremarkable, the experience I had was. After I scanned a PG rated film, the machine wanted age verification. A PG film is suitable for anyone above 8 years old, yet for some reason, the assistant wanted an ID despite me obviously not being under 8. Luckily this was sorted. Asda express are currently using these very cheap evopos self checkouts, this has some people worried as the initial asda express stores had NCR, so it gives the impression that asda may be switching over to evopos. However, asda recently replaced all their NCR staff tills with newer NCR staff tills, so it is unlikely the NCR self checkouts at the big stores will be going anywhere anytime soon. El corte ingles's self checkout was annoying, as the coin accepter was broken. I ignored the sign as sometimes the signs will be left even if the cash accepter is fixed (eg, the final self checkout of the video which has a "cash only" sign on top despite the chip and pin reader being functional). The bit that's more infuriating is how all the other self checkouts are modern DN ones with modern DN software, but this ancient NCR is left here with old NCR software. Why couldn't they have installed a Cash DN? Sainsbury's is once again not remarkable but I recorded the video very shortly after the new software was introduced. For the first few weeks of the new software, it was paired with the old voice, making my video one of the last to be filmed with the old voice. WHsmith Hybrid tills are some of the last self checkouts out there in the UK with the old NCR software, as WHsmith have recently upgraded all of their R5s. If WHSmith were to upgrade all of their Hybrid tills, the only place to have self checkouts with the old software will be Poundland (aside from some very small places, like that random spar in manchester). The lidl self checkout is the same as the Waitrose one. The voice unit on the one I filmed was broken. Oh yes, Alcampo. The cash acceptingself checkouts here are some NCR R5s with the newer software (albeit running on top of Windows PoSReady 7 due to hardware limitations). The card only machines are these mutant custom built things running the same NCR software. The day prior, I went to alcampo just before they were closing, and you could see the windows shutdown screen on each machine. On the cash ones, staff took out the coins first before switching off the machine. Alcampo is the only place I've been to where Helena Breck announces the price of each item. There are also a lot of custom announcements recorded specifically for alcampo. I wasn't even intending on recording, I was shopping with my dad, but the voice was too interesting not to get on video. And finally, an R5 at M&S. This was one of the last ever R5s at M&S (and potentially the last ever recorded), complete with the old NCR software. As you can tell by the video, the further that time passes since the transition to DN, the glitchier the NCR software gets. After I recorded it, the machine was replaced with a DN. I did see a couple more R5s since. One time was around April near Euston staion, and the other was in June at a tiny little simply food in Sutton, although sadly that machine was switched off. If there are any switched on NCRs at M&S remaining today, please let me know.
