What the heck is a MARA appliance? The word MARA is actually an acronym for Mandibular Anterior Repositioning Appliance. It is designed to reposition the lower jaw forward on a growing patient to maximize the forward growth of the lower jaw and improve the bite. In most cases it is successfully used to avoid a surgical procedure to move the lower jaw forward.
