Monochrome with Nikon D500 | Hiking Azumayama in Japan

Whereas winter in this region of Japan has wonderful weather for hiking, with mild temperatures and clear, blue skies, those same conditions are quite boring for photography. North-western Japan gets some of the most snow in the world out of Siberia but by the time it gets over the mountains to the eastern side it is completely devoid of any moisture which results in totally cloudless blue skies. The solution, I find, is to shoot in black and white and focus in on those areas of high contrast which can turn boring shots into something a lot more interesting. It is also hayfever season, which has been really severe this year, hence the mask! Hope you enjoy!
