TeknoParrot running on the Steam Deck!

Download the TPBootstrapper.zip and the Visual-C Runtimes All-In-One 2025 package linked via the TeknoParrot website. Extract both zip's somewhere on your deck. Ensure you have ProtonTricks and GE-Proton installed (via the app store on the deck) (If you don't already have these installed already then I'm not sure how you have managed without them?) Make a folder in Home called TeknoParrot Put the 'TPBootstrapper.exe' and 'TPBootstrapper.pdb' inside of the TeknoParrot folder, this will be your TeknoParrot installation directory. Create a 'Games' subfolder to put all your TeknoParrot games into (all games should be in their own subfolders inside of the main 'Games' folder. Add 'TPBootstrapper.exe' to Steam as a Non-Steam Game Rename the game in your Steam library as TeknoParrot Change Compatibility to GE-Proton9-10 (May work with more recent GE-Proton versions, but 9-10 is my go-to version) Run TeknoParrot once via Steam, It will close itself almost immediately as it is missing it's dependencies, this is to be expected. After you have run it once, there will be a 'steam\steamapps\compatdata\XXXXXXXXX' folder (Prefix) created (XXXXXXX = random ID number, sort the folders by date to find it, make a note of the unique ID number) TeknoParrot will now show up on ProtonTricks, allowing us to install the dependencies. Install .NET 8.0 through ProtonTricks: Select 'default wineprefix' The 'Install a Windows DLL or component' Choose 'dotnetdesktop8 - MS .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0 LTS' (Installs the x86 version, followed by the x64 version then returns to the ProtonTricks menu) Now, choose 'run explorer' from the ProtonTricks menu Browse to where you unzipped the 'Visual-C Runtimes All-In-One 2025' files and run the 'install_all.bat' it will automatically install all versions without interaction from you. *NOTE* DO NOT get tempted to install any DirectX Redist, it will break some games (Batman & Deathsmiles II) with an 'Error 4' message! Close ProtonTricks and run TeknoParrot via Steam again Choose 'Full Install (Download All)' then you will get a series of prompts: "Seems like this is the first time you are running TeknoParrot..." - Click OK "TeknoParrotUI collects usage data..." - Click OK Click Accept, Accept, Accept, Accept "You have no games set up..." - Click No "You have no games set up..." (again!) - Click No Click Skip Setup (bottom left of the Welcome Screen) then Yes when asked if you want to skip the setup. "You have no games set up..." (yet again!) - Click No Click the burger menu in the top left then Settings Check for updates on launch (Un-tick) Confirmation prompt on exit (Un-Tick) Disable Hardware Acceleration in UI (Tick) Dark Mode (User choice) Click 'Save settings' "You have no games set up..." (aaaaand again!) - Click No Exit TeknoParrot using the X in the top right Edit the properties of TeknoParrot in Steam and change the Target EXE to TeknoParrotUi.exe inside your TeknoParrot install folder. Set the launch options: STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH="/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/XXXXXXXXXXXX/" %command% (The XXXXXXXXX being replaced with the unique ID from before) Just under Launch Options is a drop down box for 'Maximum Game Resolution' set this to 1920x1080 and enable 'Allow resolution override for internal display' - this will fix games displaying outside of the screen area. Run TeknoParrot again. "You have no games set up..." (x2) - Click No (x2) Click the burger menu in the top left then 'Add Game' (Follow the normal TeknoParrot instructions from here as all games are different. It usually tells you the .exe file name that you're looking for at the top of the config window for the game) Note: changing input from DirectInput to Xinput via the Game config screen can sometimes crash TeknoParrot. My advice is to immediately click Save before that happens. You need to be quick, will be fine after that. Lock the framerate to 60fps/60Hz via the Steam overlay, or some games will run too fast. Make yourself a Steam controller config and assign the Escape key to one of the back buttons so you can exit games. Also enable the right trackpad as a mouse so you can navigate the UI. I map left mouse click to R2, but only after setting all the game controls, otherwise it's a pain. Games that I've tried that almost work perfectly: Dead or Alive 5: Ultimate Arcade v2.07 (FMV's don't play - .wmv format) Silent Hill: The Arcade (FMV's don't play - even with included codec installed) Castlevania: The Arcade (FMV's don't play - same as Silent Hill) Games that I've tried that are too slow Mario Kart DX GP v1.18.16 (Runs about as smooth as a PowerPoint presentation) Tekken 7: Fated Retribution Round 2 (Framerate dips into the high 40's) Star Wars Battle Pod (Framerate is all over the place. You can edit one of the game's config files to disable all of the effects and force it 60fps but looks worse as a result)
