We visited Puerto Octay in Chile! It's a town located on the northern shore of Lake Llanquihue, 50 km east of the city of Osorno, capital of the province of the same name, and 78 km northeast of Puerto Montt, capital of the Los Lagos Region. Its origins date back to pre-Hispanic times, but its current form dates from the German colonization that began in 1852, with the settlement of the first twelve families in the area now known as Playa Maitén. This milestone is commemorated with a plaque located in the cemetery at the local Catholic chapel. Since its official founding as a town in 1891, under the presidency of Jorge Montt, Puerto Octay has transformed from a commercial center into a tourist destination whose attractions captivate visitors with its natural beauty and the historical significance of its streets, architecture, and cuisine.
